Feeling pathetic

OK, I applied for a 2-year instructorship at Bowling Green, and I've just found out I didn't make the first cut. This is a non-tenure-track position, and it's being advertised after all the best people have been taken off the market.

How pathetic. It's hard to keep looking for positions, and write thse chirpy little cover letters about how wonderful I am and what an asset I would be blah blah blah, after all this.

Happy Birthday, Jen!

It is Jen's 33rd birthday today. Her 33rd year has been quite an adventure: she had a baby, got an NIH grant (then lost it, then got it), and is on the verge of getting a tenure-track position. And while I am ridiculously jealous of her professional success, I am also ridiculously proud of her and grateful for her being in my life (at the very least, she brings home the bacon!)

As she's not a LJ denizen, I'll pass along any wishes made here.
