I don't write more about Miriam because I always feel like I should be completist about it. Well, heck with it. Random comments:

- She's had a couple of neat tricks when we put her on her tummy. Jen put her on the floor a few days ago, and says that she actually inched forward under her own power. Yesterday, I put her on her tummy and she flipped herself onto her back...although to be honest her arms were underneath her, so all it took was one good push on her part. Miriam is one strong baby.
- I've arbitrarily decided that headbutts are signs of love. :) She likes to headbutt my chest. She'll also happily suck on the tip of my nose if I let her. I generally resort to letting her suck on my index finger instead, though.
- She is very expressive; we figure she is exercising her face. One face I don't understand is when she puckers her mouth into a small O, with eyes open. She's not hungry when she does that, or upset. She's just very cute.
- She gives us little flashes of smile every now and then (they never last long), and yesterday I swear I saw her smile and laugh, as if at some private joke (she wasn't looking at me at the time, which I suppose is good.)
- She actually slept 5 hours last night, which I believe is a record for her. She is generally very good at sleeping, although a couple days ago she went through a period where she couldn't seem to stop eating or being cranky. Books mention a 2-3 week growth spurt, so we're assuming that was the case. We also hypothesized that the crankiness was due to her being a teenager (she's 18 days today :)
- It's kind of neat to think that we are roughly 650 times older than she is. :)
- My mom and dad are coming in a week and a half, and I anticipate having many battles with my mother, who is an advice machine and has a hard time letting other people have their own opinions. She has already stated that she is planning on calling Miriam "Mary" and that she is giving her a bath, even though I told her that I wasn't going to give her a bath for another month or two. (Sponge baths work just as well.) I tell her about something I read and she says "Stop reading things!" When I ask her if she rather I just listen to everything she says, she says, "No, go with your instinct." OK, my instinct says she shouldn't have a bath. :) (I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks, so my family tends to assume that I overexaggerate dangers and risks and whatnot. But my anxiety doesn't work that way; Miriam has had her share of crying spells and not once have I felt any desire to panic or imagined that she had some rare disease. I don't even check for her breathing...very often, anyway. :)

OK, must go work now.
