We now have a car. One of Jen's Baha'i friends is a mechanic who keeps a fleet of "loaner cars" for his customers; he saw Jen taking the bus everywhere in her expanded condition, and sold us one of said loaners. It's a dark-red 1994 Ford Taurus with about 110,000 miles on it. It runs fine, a little lacking in power, with a currently non-functional radio. It is ridiculously tempting to drive everywhere, but I'm resisting.

I started my second summer semester this week. Somehow I was talked into teaching a 7:30am lab in addition to my regular class+lab, so that some days I am teaching for 6 straight hours. Fortunately, the early lab is only once or twice a week, and I get Fridays off. I've taught this calculus-based intro to electricity twice before, which has its positives and negatives. On the positive side, I have homework assignments and exams already prepared, and I have a decent idea about how the material should be presented. On the negative side...I wonder if my teaching is less inspired or less structured because of my experience: I might be a bit too cavalier in structuring the class, teaching the major subjects without adequately laying the groundwork for it. In any case, something seems different about the class, less comfortable. The students are all pretty good and seem to be on the ball, but I won't really know until the first exam whether people really understand the material or not.
