I HATE online job applications
Nov. 18th, 2005 12:33 amSo I'm trying to apply for a position in the Dallas County Community College District, and on their online application they have a generic question asking about how my academic experience prepared me for this job. Not having a canned response, I spent several hours this evening deciding what to say. I finally come up with a nice little four paragraph response, paste it in, press SUBMIT, and…
the application tells me that I should limit my response to that question to 600 characters.
Argh!
Why couldn't you have told me that a WEEK ago when I started worrying about that question?
Anyway, I rewrote the response and sent it all in; I think I'm officially applied. (It's just a part-time adjunct position for the spring, though.)
And this application isn't as bad as the one the Fort Worth Community College District uses. Dallas gives you 90 minutes to complete the application before you have to start all over again; Fort Worth gives you 20 minutes. And their boxes are character-limited so I can't, for example, tell them that my major in college was "Physics & Mathematics"; I have to truncate it. Asinine.
I'd rather submit paper applications any day.
