Nov. 3rd, 2005 06:52 pmOK, so Jen and I are now definitely moving to Dallas. Jen is going in the middle of January. I'm probably going with her then, but it's possible I might be offered a job at Rhode Island College again, which I did last spring and liked a lot, in which case I might stick around in Providence for that until May, and then go down to Dallas. I have no idea what I will be doing in Dallas yet, although I'm guessing that teaching will play a large part of it. I've decided that research can be fun, but working on other people's research is not so fun for me. So either I get someone to pay me to work on my own research (i.e. full faculty position), or I teach and do my own research on the side until I can get that full faculty position.
I'm not thrilled with the idea of living in Dallas, but I've accepted it (after denial, bargaining, anger, and depression) more or less. To sweeten the deal, I'm hoping we'll be able to rent a whole house for ourselves, and we'll probably get a car: part of me really rebels against the notion of owning a car, but the rest of me really dislikes public transportation. :)
So we will have to have you Boston folks over to our place before we go. Christmas party? Pre-thanksgiving party? Or maybe early January, right before we go.
